                  Lesson Policies

Materials:
All students are required to bring their own materials, including oboe, reed, music, and a pencil to each lesson.  I will recommend music and equipment in lessons for purchase.

Practicing: Practicing is a necessity to succeed in music.  How to practice and how long will be discussed in lessons, but it should be expected that daily practice is necessary to progress and succeed.  If you are unsure of how to practice, what to practice, or how much, let me know and we'll discuss together.

Attendance:
Lesson cancellations scheduled in advance with the instructor may be rescheduled as needed.  Cancellations must be communicated at least 24 hours in advance to receive a makeup lesson.  Any cancellation without 24 hours notice is forfeited and the lesson fee will be due at the next lesson.  This is to honor the time and preparation of the instructor and to prevent frequent lesson changes.

Student Responsibilities:
  • To develop oboe skills from beginner to advanced, demonstrated through sight-reading, technique, and repertoire.
  • To further understand the mechanics, sound, musicality, and technique of the oboe.
  • To respect the teacher’s time and instructions.
  • To foster an appreciation of the arts.
  • To practice consistently throughout the week the amount of time recommended by the instructor.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities:
  • To encourage a healthy, positive relationship with their oboe studies.
  • To communicated openly and frequently with the instructor about potential behavioral issues, concerns, or frustrations your child may be experiencing between lessons.
  • To maintain a consistent schedule of lessons through each month and clearly communicate weeks that will be cancelled due to travel, activities, appointments, or other conflicts.
